The Sinking of the Okinawa

Just one year after the successful sinking of the 324-foot vessel, Lady Luck, the City of Pompano Beach recently sunk another ship. Located one mile east of the Pompano Fishing Pier, an 107-foot-long tugboat called the Okinawa was officially ‘sunk’ in 70 feet of water on Saturday, August 19th. Local sponsors Keith and Associates, Shipwreck Park and Finlandia Vodka were joined by dive enthusiasts and other locals to help celebrate the newest addition to the park. Life-sized artwork from local artist Dennis McDonald was unveiled, which was designed to attract marine growth as well as divers from around the world.
